Daisenryaku Expert for SNES faq Faq by Dave, 2000 Introduction: Daisenryaku is a series of war/strategy games similar to Nectaris (Military Madness). This series have spawned games over the Genesis, SNES, Game Gear, PC-Engine, PSX, MSX, and Saturn to my knowledge. Their are only 2 translated Daisenryaku games, the Saturn version was officially translated by Working Designs and was brought to the US under the title IRON STORM. The other translation is a non offical translation done by Takamichi on the MSX version. Daisenryaku can be divided into two types, WW2 and Modern. WW2 Daisenryaku takes place in the second world war and all the equipments existed during that era. The Modern Daisenryaku takes place when the game was made and uses equipment from the current era. Units: First off, Daisenryaku has equipment from 12 countries, which are US, CIS (Soviet Union), France, Sweden, Britain, Italy, Germany, Japan, China, Israel, the big 3 arab states, and Sweden (UN is a 13th choice which uses the best out of all the 12. Here we'll explain what the units are, this will be based in the order they are sold at production area's (such as hexes, cities, airports, ports, and area's surrounding the main base). The list will be slightly altered to include the Full name of these units for greater accuracy for all you military nuts so here it goes US: -F14 Tomcat -F15 Eagle -F16 Falcon -F117 -F18 Hornet -AV8b Harrier -A6 Intruder -A7 Corsair -A10 Warthog -F111 -Air transport -Fuel Plane -B1 -UH60 Blackhawk -AH64 Apache -O22 Osprey -M1 Abrams -M60A3 -M901 -ADATS -MLRS -M2 Bradley -Infantry -Elite Infantry -Patriot -F22 Raptor -Fuel Truck -Frigate -Aegis cruiser -Battleship -Super Carrier -Freighter CIS (Soviet Union): -Mig23 Flogger -Mig29 Fulcrum -Mig31 Foxhound -Su27 Flanker -Yak38 Forger -Su24 Fencer -Su25 Frogfoot -Mig27 Flogger -Air transport -Fuel Plane -Tu26 Backfire -Tu-160 Blackjack -Mi17 Hip H -Mi-28 Havoc -Ka-50 Hokum -T80 -T64 -BRDM2 -SA13 Gopher -2S6 Borga -SA6 Gainful -M1973 -BMP2 -Infantry -Elite Infantry -Fuel Truck -BMP3 -Frigate -Carrier -Destroyer -Carrier -Freighter Germany: -F4 Phantom II -Mig29 Fulcrum -F104 Starfighter -Alphajet -Tornadio IDS -Air transport -Fuel Plane -UH1 Iriqois -PAH1 -Leopard 2 -Leopard 1 -Yagual -Gerpard -Roland 2 -Hawk -M109 -Marder -BMP1 -Truck -Infantry -Elite Infantry -Patriot -Fuel Truck -Frigate -Freighter Sweden: -J35 Draken -JA37 Viggen -JAS39 Gripen -Air Transport -UH-1 Iriqois -PAH1 -Centurion -S.Tank -IKv91 -Armad -Hawk -Vk155 -Pbv G -Truck -Infantry -Elite Infantry -Fuel Truck -Freighter Israel: -F4 Phantom II -F15 Eagle -F16 Falcon -Mirage 3 -Kfir -A4 Skyhawk -Fuel Plane -bomber -UH1 Iriqois -AH1 Cobra -M60A3 -Merkava Mk3 -ZSU 23 Silka -M48 chapparal -M163 Type -Hawk -M109 -M113 -Truck -Infantry -Patriot -Fuel Truck - Freighter Great Arab 3 states (the game is probably referring to Syria, Egypt, and Iraq who formed an alliance in the 60's-70's to take down Israel): -Mig21 Fishbed -Mig23 Flogger -Mirage F1 -F5 Tiger II -A4 Skyhawk -Super Entendard -Su25 Frogfoot -Su22 Fitter -Fuel Plane -Air Transport -Badger -Mi8 Hip -Gazelle -M60A3 -T72 -T62 -Chieftain -PT76 -SA9 Gaskin -SA8 Gecko -ZSU23 Silka -SA4 Ganef -BM21 -M109 -BMP1 -M113 -Truck -Infantry -Scud -Fuel Truck -Frigate -Freighter France: -Rafale -Mirage3 -Mirage F1 -Mirage200 -Jaguar -Super Entendard -Alphajet -Air Transport -Fuel Plane -Gazelle -Super Puma -Le Clerc -AMX30 -AMX10RC -AMX13 -Roland2 -DCA30 -Crotale -155CGT -AMX10P -Truck -Infantry -Elite Infantry -Fuel Truck -Frigate -Cruiser -Carrier -Freighter Japan: -F4 Phantom II -F15 Eagle -FSX -Mitsubishi F1 -Air Transport -UH1 Iriqois -AH1 Cobra -80 type tank -74 type tank -60 type gun -82 type AA -81 type SAM -Hawk -75 type 155mm -75 type 130mm -73 type transport -89 type transport -truck -Infantry -Elite Infantry -Patriot -Fuel Truck -Frigate -Aegis Cruiser -Freighter Italy: -F104 Starfighter -AV8 Harrier -Tornadio IDS -Air Transport -Fuel Plane -UH1 Iriqois -M60A3 -Leopard1 -M901 -M163 type -Hawk -M109 -MLRS -M113 -AHV7 -Truck -Infantry -Elite Infantry -A109 Mangusta -Fuel Truck -Frigate -Cruiser -Helicopter Carrier -Freighter Britain: -F4 Phantom II -Tornado ADV -AV8 Harrier -Jaguar -Tornado IDS -Air Transport -Fuel Plane -Gazelle -Lynx -Challenger -Chieftain -Scorpion -Rapier -M109 -Warrior -Truck -Infantry -Elite Infantry -Patriot -Fuel Truck -Frigate -Cruiser -Helicopter Carrier -Freighter China: -J7 Finback -Q5 Finback -Air Transport -Fuel Plane -Tu16 Badger -Mi8 Hip -80 type tank -69 type tanks -62 type tank -PT76 -80 type AA -63 type AA -SA4 Ganef -83 type Gun -77 type APV -Truck -Infantry -Fuel Truck UN: -F14 Tomcat -F15 Eagle -Su27 Flanker -Mirage 3 -F117 -AV8 Harrier -Super Entendard -F111 -Air Transport -Fuel Plane -B52 -B2 -Ah64 Apache -Mi24 Hind -O22 Osprey -M60A3 -T80 -Leopard2 -Teradyne AGS -M901 -Gerpard -Roland2 -MLRS -Infantry -Patriot -F22 -Fuel Truck -BMP3 -Aegis Cruiser -Battleship -Super Carrier -Freighter During the Translation process, it's likely the names of the equipment will be dropped due to space constraints (I.E ZSU23 Silka will be just called ZSU23, F15 Eagle will just be F15 etc). When Playing the games, you might notice that several countries use the same weapons such as US and Israel who both use F15 Eagles. Keep in mind that each nation in the game has different training levels when the game begins so one nation might have a higher training level. Also some nations have more equipment to be bought, Sweden has some of the least while CIS and US have tons of choices. Gaining money is done by taking over Cities, airports, and ports. This can only be done by Infantry units. Units all have a weakness and strengths, here are some examples: Tanks are weak against Bombers, Bombers are weak against Fighters, Fighters are weak against SAM, SAM are weak against Tanks. Aircrafts can be fixed and re-fueled at airports that belong to that nation. Ground units can be fixed and re-fueled at cities, and ships can be fixed and re-fueled at Ports. Often You'll be stretching your airplanes and tanks beyond cities and will often run out of fuel, Fuel trucks and Fuel Planes can refuel units by placing them next to it, and will refuel next round. (Note, Helicopters cannot be refuled by Fuel Planes, only by Fuel Trucks) Terrains often can hinder or improve battles. Mountains and Forests lower how many spaces Ground Units can move, but during battles, provide excellent protection. Grasslands and Roads offer the best movements but offer weaker protection. Infantry Units (especially Elite Infantry Units) don't move very far, yet they are very important because you need them to take cities, etc, they also are very weak in defense you're best bet is to put them in some form of transport such as airplane, helicopter, armored vehicles, freighters, and trucks. Scout Cars and Ships offer the best visual range, meaning that when moved, they can spot several hex's away compared to other units. SAM's come in two types. Long range and Short range. Short range SAM's such as the Roland2 have to be next to the enemy in order to fight. Longe Range SAM's such as the Patriot can shoot several hexes away. Short range SAM's tend to do more damage but also can be attacked back at the same time. Hints on playing: Its best to put infantry in helicopters or armored vehicles. Trucks are very weak. Helicopters have some good offensive capabilities and range, while armored vehicles offer some good protection and fire power. When starting off, its best to make some Tanks and SAM's first as well as Infantry to take cities to get that extra income! If possible and if you have enough money, Make ships!. Ships offer excellent visual range and firepower. The only thing that can destroy a ship is other ships and ASM (anti shipping missle) armed bombers. however most aircrafts can be easily shot down by a ships arsenal of SAM's (except Freighters) Planes can also land on Carriers. Although unrealistic, Helicopters are strong against Fighter AAMs (air to air missles) however they easily fall prey to SAM's like other aircrafts. Never try to fight a unit that has a greater number of Experience than you unless you know you are definitely going to win. You don't have to buy everytype of unit, because some are just awful. In a scenario that is mostly land, try to avoid buying big bombers. They are basically attack planes that have longer range but more weakness. Bombers should only be used against ships and very far off targets. Keep an eye on your planes! planes eat up the most fuel! Keep 1 or 2 Fuel Planes in handy. Here's a good way to start off using CIS units: Buy T80's as your main and only tank, don't buy the T64 etc. SA6's long range SAM's will be important for defending you against airplanes. Put you're infantry and elite infantry in Mi-17's and arm them with rockets, they may be useful against tanks. When buying Fighters buy only the Su-27 or Mig-29. Avoid the Yak-38 at all costs! The Mig-27, Su-25, and Su-24 are all nice attack planes, but the Su-24 would probably be the better choice since it holds more fuel and range. Buy lots of M1973 to supplement your T80 force, the M1973 are mobile artillery units you can use to help bombard enemy ground units. If you must use a armored troop carrier use the BMP3! Although I dont really reccomend helicopters, if you must buy one, buy the Ka-50 since it can fight other helicopters pretty well, and defend it self against jet planes well too. Challenge: When playing certain nations have some advantages, if you're a beginner or want to start off easy I reccomend you use UN or Israel. The UN uses some of the best CIS and US equipment, also they use the Mi-24, a very excellent helicopter that can carry troops and fight ground units very well. Israel starts off with the highest training and experience out of all the nations, all you need to do is buy F15's, Merkava tanks, and Patriots to gain easy supremacy. CIS, US, France, Germany, Britain, Japan are relatively also easy to use. Using Italy can present some challenge as they do not have a very good tank and fighter choice though they do have some good attack planes. The 3 arab states have a big selection but do not have a tank or fighter that is exceptional, they also start off with low training. Sweden has moderate training, a great fighter, however they have NO attack plane or bomber! your fighter, mainly the Gripen, will have to be overworked doing both Fighter and ground attack roles. Its best tank, the S-tank, is very weak, and their SAM's are just ok. China will be the biggest challenge to use as your main force. Their top fighter is only equal to probably the cheapest fighter of the other nations. Their tank force is just ok they have no elite infantry, however most of their units are cheap so the best idea is to use overwhelming numbers to win and make sure you get most of the cities etc asap. Editor's Notes: The designer of the game made some slight mistakes in equipment naming. And military buffs will most likely notice these, if you're new to the military scene then this section probably won't matter to you. Under China's equipment there is a Finback A and a Finback B, however the 2nd plane is a Q5 and NOT a Finback plane. Also to note is that the Finback A is basically the same as a Mig-21. If you noticed that alot of the weapons have the same pictures during combat, you're right, for example the same plane is used if you see a Su-27 or Mig29 fight, I guess the designers were to lazy to draw the differences, this is especially true when you see tank battles where the LeClerc, Challenger, M1, Leopard2, and Chieftain look exactly the same. Unlike the other Daisenryaku's, your bombers can't bomb cities (shucks) which make them sort of useless. The Japanese and Chinese use the term "type" to designate their weapons, however note that these two countries do not use the same weapons even though they both use the term "type" for their weapons. If you are playing Britain, you might notice there's two Tornado's, an ADV and an IDS version. Basically, the ADV is a fighter and the IDS is the attack plane.
